Description

This is a 5 days Trek and is moderately strenuous. It passes through some beautiful High Altitude Lakes. It starts from Paro near the Museum and ends in Takin Preserve Centre, Motithang, Thimphu. The highest point is 4110m.

Itinerary

Arrive at Paro

Your Guide from Bhutan Corinthian will greet you on arrival, and then drive you to the hotel.
While in Paro, visit:
• Ta Dzong (built in1656 and renovated in 1968), an ancient watchtower, which now houses the National Museum.
• Paro Rimpung Dzong (literally meaning “Heap of Jewels”, built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the centre of civil and religious authority in this valley.
Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Paro - Excursion to Taktsang Monastery

• Acclamatise Hike to Taktsang, 2 hrs walk uphill if you are healthy and fit.
• Kichu Lhakhang, built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan king Srongsen Gampo.
• Kichu Lhakhang
Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Paro - Jele Dzong (Start of Trek)

ACamp Altitude: 3560m; Distance 10 Km; Walking Time 4 - 5 hours. (1090 meters ascent).

Jele Dzong - Jangchulakha

Camp Altitude: 3770m; Distance 10 Km; walking time: 3 - 4 hours. (Ascent 310 meters, descent 50 meters)

Jangchulakha - Jimilangtso

Camp Altitude: 3870m; Distance 11 Kms; Walking time 4 hours, (330 meters ascent, 230 meters descent).

Jimilangtso - Simkota

The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees past the lake of Janetso. Overnight camp.
Camp Altitude: 4110 meters, 11 km, Walking time: 4 hours, (820 meters ascent, 400 meters descent). Overnight camp.

Simkota - Phajoding – Thimphu

Altitude (End of Trek: 2520 meters), Distance: 15 km, walking time: 6 – 7 hours, (130 meters ascent, 1820 descent). Overnight in Hotel.

Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast, visit
• Takin Preserve Center – houses unique animal – the national animal of Bhutan.
• Sangay Gang View Point – gives you a bird’s eye view of the city
• The Largest and the tallest Statue of sitting Buddha – popular among the locals and the International tourists
• Painting School where traditional art is still kept alive through instructions in the art of painting Thangkas (sacred Buddhist religious scrolls)

• The Royal Textile Museum.
• The RTA is one of the first institutions in the country practicing and imparting internationally accepted methods and techniques of conservation and preservation of the priceless textiles and other artifacts. The conservation centre has not only been responsible for the preservation and conservation of our artifacts but also provided our service to restore many pieces from several Dzongs and monasteries in Bhutan. As of now the conservation centre at the Royal Textile Academy is focused primarily on textiles. However, with our growing collections that includes not only textiles but metals, wood works, paintings, etc. our conservation department will expand to include these art works and artifacts as well.

• In the afternoon, visit to the National Memorial Chorten (1974) built in honour of our late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk.
Overnight in Hotel in Thimphu.

Thimphu – Punakha

Drive to Punakha via Dochula pass. On the way, visit Chime Lhakhang, which was built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley. The Temple is also known as “the Temple of Fertility”.
After lunch, visit
• Punakha Dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal
• The longest suspension bridge in the country.
Overnight in Hotel.

Punakha – Paro

After breakfast, drive to Paro. Stop on the way to view Semtokha Dzong – the oldest Dzong in the country. On the way view a private Tamchog Lhakhang.

Afternoon, free for shopping. Evening, drive to Paro. Overnight in Hotel.

Early morning, drive to the Airport and Farewell.
